Arnold's Florist

Photo from the Armstrong Archives

In 1952, Arnold’s Florist started business in the basement of the Avalon Inn.  Guests at the Avalon could walk out on the balcony and smell the fresh, fragrant aroma of the flowers wafting up from below.  Apparently from the hardy chrysanthemums lining the sidewalk, this photograph was taken in the fall of the year.

The above photograph shows the inside of the florist.  There is a cooler for keeping fresh flowers and shelves lined with artificial flowers and all types of containers.  The center display holds all types of knick-knacks.  Potted plants are placed on top of the cooler in order to keep them warm during the winter months.

  1. This date might be not quite accurate. My mother was working at Arnold's in the spring & Easter season of 1951.
