Green's Barber Shop

Green's Barber Shop 1920 through 1939.

In 1920, Green's Barber Shop opened on Main Street in Harrodsburg and operated there until 1939. This photograph shows the six chairs with the barbers ready to work. Everyone had his hair cut there. In an interview in 1991, Fred Taylor recalled:

"I started out in 1927 and worked on the laundry truck, and my salary was $8 a week, but I was training for barber, and I couldn't go to barber school because it was segregated, and Mr. Green could not get me in, so he got me a transcript to stay through the University of Kentucky - that's the way I got to be a barber in 1927."
