Herbert Alvin Sharpe

Photograph and information provided by Jerry L. Sampson:

I've had this for several years. Came out of a collection in North Carolina. I think This is a bronze plaque that was engraved and cast by Herbert Alvin Sharpe. Herbert grew up in Burgin but left to travel the world. Spent his latter years in New Orleans, where he designed and produced the first light weight coins, called throws; as they were thrown from the mardi gras floats. He had a fabulous work shop at one time, and his work is very collected in LA. This one is in bronze but he could have done it also in aluminum, copper, brass or even gold. He still loved Kentucky and Harrodsburg and often used them in his original works.
